Why It Takes a Team: The Power Behind PT, OT, and Speech for Kids

By working together, our physical therapist (PT), occupational therapist (OT), and speech-language therapist (SLP) can team up to make a significant difference — not just for your child but for your whole family.

What Does Everyone Work On

We find that most families are familiar with one or two of these therapists, but don’t know how they all connect!

  • Physical therapy helps with movement: strength, coordination, posture, balance, and achieving motor milestones like crawling, walking, or jumping.

  • Occupational therapy supports everyday tasks: using hands to play, write, dress, eat, and handle sensory experiences like loud sounds or rough textures.

  • Speech therapy helps with communication: expressing language, understanding language, vocabulary, grammar and more.

Each therapy addresses different skills — but here’s the thing: they’re all connected.

Why It Works Better Together

One of the most incredible things about multidisciplinary therapy is that each professional brings a unique lens — and together, those lenses create a full picture of the child. Inspire Connections Therapy, LLC offers all these services because we understand how important the connection is!

Here are a few ways our whole team can work together to support your child’s development:

Handwriting:

  • Our OT works on grip strength, coordination, and letter formation

  • Our PT works on developing trunk control and strength so you child can sit at the table

  • Our SLP works on vocabulary, following directions, and language

It’s not just about handwriting — it’s about helping your child succeed as a whole person.

Getting Dressed:

  • Our OT works on strength and coordination for buttons, zippers, and snaps

  • Our PT works on balance and body awareness so that they can pull on pants without falling over

  • Our SLP works on vocabulary, requesting, commenting, self-advocating, and following directions

It's not just about putting on clothes — it’s about helping your child feel capable, independent, and proud of what they can do.

Mealtimes:

  • Our OT works on using their utensils independently

  • Our PT works on developing core strength so that they can sit at the table comfortably and safely

  • Our SLP works on requesting, commenting, retelling stories about their day, and routines

When these skills come together, it’s not just about eating — it’s about making mealtimes more successful, social, and enjoyable for the whole family.

Bedtime routines:

  • Our OT works on developing sensory routines, emotion regulation, and brushing teeth

  • Our PT works on developing motor coordination to navigate night time routines, walking up stairs, getting in an out of bed, balancing for getting dressed

  • Our SLP works on sharing thoughts, asking for wants and needs, emotion regulation, developing routines, and understanding language

It’s not just about going to bed — it’s about helping your child feel safe, calm, and ready for a good night’s sleep.

Playground:

  • Our OT works on grip strength, sensory regulation, and emotion regulation

  • Our PT works on developing balance, strength, and coordination for climbing, swinging, and running

  • Our SLP works on talking to peers, asking others to play, and problem solving.

It’s not just about playing — it’s about helping your child engage, connect, and thrive in their world.

When our therapists communicate and collaborate:

  • Therapy goals align. Everyone is working toward the same big-picture outcome.

  • Progress accelerates. Kids build momentum faster when their needs are supported across the board.

  • Families feel empowered. Consistent strategies make it easier for parents to follow through at home — and see real results.

Many parents don’t realize how much these therapies can overlap. Every child’s journey is different, and so is every therapy plan. Some kids may need one therapy, while others benefit from all three. What matters most is that we see the whole child —their strengths, their challenges, and their potential.

At Inspire Connections Therapy, LLC, our team collaborates to build individualized plans and strategies that support your child not just in one area, but across their entire development. Because we know growth doesn’t happen in isolation— and therapy shouldn’t either.
